This shirt originates from the production of Sulfur-Drifter Wrangler, a science-fiction western filmed between November 1991 and April 1992. Set on Jupiter’s moon Io, the project imagined space cowboys wrangling sulfur-drifters across volcanic plains, blending frontier imagery with low-budget science fiction.
The film entered principal photography but was halted before completion following a lawsuit filed against the production company. Post-production never began, distribution was never secured, and the project was quietly abandoned.
These shirts were printed for crew use during production. They were later discovered packed alongside the original 35mm negatives when the president of Milan Pictures LTD. entered foreclosure. The contents of the company’s offices and storage facilities were sold as a single lot at auction.
Among the other items in the lot were:
* Three fiberglass horse head molds fitted for transparent helmet domes
* A cracked acrylic space helmet labeled CAVALLO B in grease pencil
* A coil of heat-scorched synthetic rope used for sulfur-drifter wrangling scenes
* A partial sulfur-drifter shell prop, smelling faintly of resin and chemicals
* A weathered cowboy hat modified with interior padding for helmet clearance
* Handwritten Italian cue cards marked “VENTO FORTE / REAZIONE LENTA”
* A foam-and-latex cactus painted to resemble volcanic rock
* An unassembled mechanical “drifter collar” with missing components
